Chapter 1193 - 1189: Trying to Earn a Place in Her Heart
"Really?" Emma Hughes was somewhat incredulous. Drinking coffee without sugar would be too bitter, wouldn’t it?But ultimately, she still followed Eva Miller’s advice. After all, Eva Miller and Luke Land had been together day in and day out for so long; she should understand his preferences.
Sure enough, Eva Miller was right. Luke Land drank coffee without sugar.
At first, Emma Hughes thought Luke Land had some feelings for her, but later she discovered that when he brought her into the study, all he did was let her sit on the side or ask her to make a cup of coffee. There was nothing else.
Emma Hughes glanced at the time; it was indeed getting late.
She gathered a great deal of courage, stood up, and softly stepped around to stand behind Luke Land. Her slender, fair arms rested on his broad shoulders as she leaned down a little, bringing her lips close to his ear.
"Second Young Master, it’s so late. Why don’t you stop working? I could keep you company as you rest?" Emma Hughes’s voice was soft and gentle, likely irresistible to most men.
Luke Land merely removed her hand from his shoulder.
"I still have work to finish. Don’t bother me."
Emma Hughes retreated somewhat nervously to the side. Her aim was simply not to anger Luke Land, a point where she was indeed quite different from Eva Miller.
Seeing her perceptiveness, Luke Land didn’t say more, and the two spent the night in the study, with Emma Hughes sitting idly by as she watched Luke Land work through the night.
Eva Miller sat downstairs eating breakfast but inexplicably felt tasteless.
She couldn’t quite grasp her situation. What was her relationship with Luke Land anyway? Was it still meaningful to keep entangled in this way?
What did it mean when he flirted with other women, embracing them? Did he... really have relationships with them?
Her small hand clenched into a fist, her clean fingernails digging deep into her flesh, yet no pain could affect her.
Right now, Eva Miller felt like she didn’t even recognize herself.
"Butler, do you think... I should leave?" In this house, she could only speak a few words with the butler now.
The butler just sighed deeply without directly answering her.
"Alright, even you’re unwilling to talk to me now." Eva Miller lowered her gaze, her small hand constantly stirring the coffee in the cup with a spoon.
The butler looked at Eva Miller and couldn’t help but start to feel compassion for her.
"Young Madam, I just think you and the Young Master should work on your tempers." Being someone who had reached old age, the butler’s words were particularly heartfelt and carried a hint of teaching. "Things could be easily explained, but neither of you is willing to start talking, which leads to misunderstandings..."
"I can tell that the Second Young Master truly loves you, and if Young Madam, you asked him not to bring women home, he certainly wouldn’t next time. The Young Master merely wants to hold some place in your heart; he just can’t bear and won’t accept your indifference, your disregard..."
The butler’s words hit the crux of the matter, which Eva Miller had not realized before.
"Should I... go tell him these things clearly now?"
