Chapter 142 Spirit Spring
Chapter 142 Spirit Spring
Filled with anticipation and nervousness, the group slowly made their way along the newly appeared passage.
The passageway was eerily quiet, with only the slightly hurried footsteps of the group echoing in the empty space.
As they walked, eerie lights suddenly appeared on both sides of the passage. These lights were not the usual warm orange-yellow light, but rather emitted a strange, ghostly blue hue. The flames flickered strangely in the quiet air, as if controlled by invisible hands.
Lin Yu frowned, his eyes filled with vigilance, and whispered a reminder: "Everyone be careful, this place is strange, don't let your guard down."
Everyone nodded solemnly and unconsciously moved closer together.
As the group ventured deeper, a misty fog gradually spread out ahead, resembling a thin veil under the glow of the dim blue lights, adding to the mysterious atmosphere.
Suddenly, a shimmering area appeared ahead. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a pool that resembled a spiritual spring.
The spring exudes a soft light, which refracts in the mist to form a dreamlike halo. The liquid in the pool is like flowing stars, shimmering with a captivating luster.
"This...this is the Spirit Source?" A disciple dressed in gray clothes who was with Zhou Yi stared wide-eyed, his eyes filled with greed and desire, his lips trembling slightly as he muttered to himself.
Before anyone could react, he seemed to be pulled by an invisible force, staggering as he rushed towards the spirit spring, shouting, "Spiritual Source! It's the Spiritual Source!"
Immediately afterwards, two more of Zhou Yi's companions had their eyes glazed over, their faces showing infatuated smiles, and they kept repeating the word "spiritual source" as they rushed toward the spiritual spring without regard for anything else.
Zhou Yi was terrified and quickly reached out to grab him, but only grasped at thin air. His eyes widened, and he cried out in horror, "Don't go! It's dangerous!"
However, everything happened too fast. The moment the three disciples touched the surface of the spiritual spring, they were instantly enveloped by a powerful force.
Their bodies twisted and dissolved rapidly in the light, turning into ashes and dissipating into the air in the blink of an eye.
Sun Yao was so frightened that she covered her mouth, her face turned ashen, her body trembled uncontrollably, and she almost screamed.
Xu Xiaoxiao couldn't help but gasp, a hint of fear flashing in her eyes, and she instinctively gripped the longsword in her hand.
Zhao Yu, his face contorted with rage, gripped his broadsword tightly and roared, "What the hell is this thing?!"
Veins bulged on his forehead, and his eyes burned with anger and vigilance.
Zi Ling's brows furrowed into a deep frown, her eyes filled with doubt and contemplation. She quickly waved her staff, attempting to use magic to perceive the secrets of the spiritual spring, muttering to herself, "This spiritual spring is definitely not benevolent; it must be hiding some kind of evil power."
Lin Yu stared intently at the spiritual spring, his gaze deep. After a moment of contemplation, he said, "It seems to be a very deceptive trap. Everyone must not be fooled by appearances."
Zhou Yi stood there, stunned, his face filled with grief and regret. He pounded his chest in self-reproach, his voice trembling as he said, "It's all my fault. If only I could have stopped them sooner..."
Lin Yu stepped forward, patted Zhou Yi on the shoulder, and comforted him, "This is not your fault. Nobody expected this to happen. Now we need to be even more careful and not let this tragedy repeat itself."
Suppressing their fear and grief, the group rekindled their determination as they circled the spirit spring, cautiously searching for a way to bypass the dangerous area. They continued their journey toward the spirit source, knowing that what lay ahead would only be more perilous.
With heavy hearts, the group slowly bypassed the eerie spring and continued deeper into the passage.
The air in the passageway grew increasingly damp and cold, each breath carrying a chilling piercing sensation. The eerie blue lights flickered on either side, casting long, distorted shadows of the people, as if telling endless tales of the uncanny within this gloomy space.
Lin Yu walked at the front of the group, his folding fan slightly open, constantly alert to the movements around him. His eyes were as sharp as a hawk's, not missing any subtle changes.
Zhao Yu gripped the broadsword tightly, its blade gleaming coldly. His forehead was covered in sweat, but his eyes revealed an unwavering determination.
Zi Ling chanted a spell in a low voice. The gem at the top of her staff emitted a faint light, illuminating the path for everyone. Her brows were furrowed and her expression was solemn, as if she was thinking about how to deal with this unknown predicament.
As Qian Feng walked, he cautiously observed his surroundings, muttering to himself, "Just how many more dangers await us in this place?"
Sun Yao followed closely behind Xu Xiaoxiao, her hands gripping Xu Xiaoxiao's clothes tightly. Her eyes were filled with fear, but she still suppressed her fear, not wanting to hold everyone back.
Xu Xiaoxiao gently patted Sun Yao's hand, offering her silent comfort. Her gaze was firm, and she kept a close eye on the subtle clues in her surroundings.
After walking for an unknown amount of time, the fog ahead gradually thickened, and through the haze, they saw a pool of shimmering water.
Lin Yu was startled and quickly stepped forward. When he saw the scene before him, his expression instantly turned serious: "Oh no, we're back at the Spirit Spring again."
Everyone's faces turned deathly pale instantly, their eyes filled with shock and despair.
Zhao Yu stared wide-eyed in disbelief and roared, "How is this possible! We were clearly heading straight ahead, how did we end up back here!" With that, he angrily swung his broadsword, hacking at the wall beside him with a dull thud.
Zhou Yi slumped to the ground, holding his head in his hands, his face full of despair: "Are we going to never get out of here?"
Zi Ling frowned, carefully observing the surrounding environment, trying to find a flaw: "There's definitely something wrong with this. We've come all this way without any forks in the road, so how could we have ended up back where we started?"
Xu Xiaoxiao stood to the side, her eyes revealing a thoughtful look.
She slowly closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and began to carefully recall every detail of her journey. After a moment, she opened her eyes and said firmly, "We triggered the formation here and are trapped."
All eyes turned to Xu Xiaoxiao, filled with hope. Lin Yu asked anxiously, "Miss Xu, are you sure? Is there a way to break this?"
Xu Xiaoxiao nodded slightly, her gaze sweeping across the surrounding walls: "From the moment we entered this passage, the surrounding environment has been full of mysteries. These eerie blue lights and the recurring spiritual springs are all part of the formation. To break it, we must find the key nodes of the formation."
As she spoke, Xu Xiaoxiao walked slowly along the wall, carefully observing every carving and mark.
Everyone followed behind her, not daring to breathe. Suddenly, Xu Xiaoxiao stopped in front of a wall. Her eyes were fixed on a seemingly ordinary pattern on the wall, and she reached out and gently touched it.
The moment her finger touched the pattern, the surrounding space suddenly trembled violently, the eerie blue lights flickered even more intensely, and the water in the spiritual spring began to churn wildly.
Zhao Yu gripped his broadsword tightly and shouted, "Xiaoxiao, is something wrong?"
Xu Xiaoxiao did not answer. Her forehead was covered with sweat, but her eyes revealed a firm determination.
She concentrated, sensing the changes in the formation, trying to find the key to breaking it. Suddenly, a glint flashed in her eyes, and she pressed down hard on a protrusion on the pattern.
With a muffled sound, a stone door slowly rose from one side of the passage, and a breath of fresh air rushed out from behind it.
Upon seeing this, everyone's faces lit up with joy. Lin Yu exclaimed, "Miss Xu, thanks to you, otherwise we don't know how long we would have been trapped here."
Xu Xiaoxiao wiped the sweat from her forehead and smiled slightly: "Everyone, don't let your guard down. This is just the first step. There may be more dangers waiting for us ahead."
They took a deep breath, encouraged each other, and strode confidently toward the passage behind the stone gate to face a new challenge.
