Chapter 9 Attitude Shift
Chapter 9 Attitude Shift
The next morning, the dance class for the female trainees in Group A started as usual.
When Kim Tae-yeon pushed open the practice room door, the suffocating panic she felt yesterday was gone.
But she was still nervous.
This tension, from the moment she stepped through the door, felt like a thin thread wrapped around her fingertips.
In the practice room, several trainees in the front row had already started stretching their legs.
Kim Tae-yeon walked to the last row of the line, and her face was reflected in the mirror.
Looking at herself in the mirror, Kim Tae-yeon suddenly recalled what had happened in the small practice room.
Jiang Tang stood next to her, pointing at the reflection in the mirror with his finger, his tone lazy yet exceptionally confident.
"It's not that my legs are slow."
"Your shoulders are too tense."
"Don't try to jump over it directly; first, let your waist and body adapt to the rhythm of your shoulders."
Kim Tae-yeon quietly let out a breath.
She used to be most afraid of dance class.
As soon as the music started, she felt like the slowest person in a race.
Others know when to start, when to turn, and when to put their movements into rhythm, but she just gets more and more confused as she dances.
But last night, after Jiang Tang broke down those dance moves bit by bit, she realized for the first time that she wasn't completely clueless.
She just misplaced her efforts from the very beginning.
"Get ready."
The dance teacher clapped her hands.
The noise in the practice room immediately subsided.
The prelude to the music begins.
In the first set of movements, Kim Tae-yeon used her elbows and waist to exert force simultaneously.
During the second eight count, the trainees in the front row had already habitually rushed forward, but Kim Tae-yeon remembered what Kang Tang had said last night and kept her weight on the inside of her waist.
Sure enough, the first part was completed smoothly.
As the chorus approached, Kim Tae-yeon's heart tightened.
She messed up here yesterday.
"Don't panic, just do as Jiang Tang says."
The moment she finished turning, her feet spun with her center of gravity, and she quickly regained her footing.
Kim Tae-yeon herself was stunned, and her eyes widened involuntarily.
She actually managed to keep up.
The dance teacher had been casually scanning the line when she saw the last row and suddenly raised her hand.
"stop."
All the trainees stopped at the same time.
The little joy that Kim Tae-yeon had just felt was instantly suppressed by that shout.
Her back tightened, and her first thought was that she had made a mistake again.
The dance teacher's gaze fell on her.
Kim Tae-yeon.
"Inside."
Kim Tae-yeon immediately stood up straight, her voice very tense.
The teacher looked at her for two seconds, then suddenly asked, "Who taught you that?"
Kim Tae-yeon was stunned.
She almost instinctively wanted to say Jiang Tang's name, but the words caught in her throat and she swallowed them back.
She secretly practiced extra last night, and Jiang Tang is in the trial training group. If the teacher finds out about this, it might not be a good thing.
She pinched her fingertips and whispered, "I... I practiced a little longer last night."
The dance teacher just looked at her, as if trying to confirm whether her change just now was accidental.
A few seconds later, the teacher nodded.
"This time we found the right method."
Her tone was calm, and there was little hint of praise in it.
But when these words reached Kim Tae-yeon's ears, her eyes lit up instantly.
She wanted to laugh, but was afraid of making it too obvious, so she could only nod vigorously.
Yes! I'll do my best!
It turns out that what Jiang Tang said was true.
Don't feel like you're not moving forward just because others are moving faster.
It's not that she can't do it.
She just hadn't found the key.
……
On the other side, in the trial training group's practice room.
Jiang Tang stood in the group, his practice clothes already soaked with sweat.
The training intensity for the trial group was not low.
To be precise, it is precisely because they are not yet official trainees that the teachers will show even less leniency.
Formal trainees at least have some potential for development, but those in the trial group could be eliminated at any time. Whether they stay or not depends entirely on their performance during this period.
Jiang Tang's talent is slowly emerging, but he's not strong enough to crush everyone with his first move.
The problem is that after he makes a mistake once, he will be significantly better the second time, and the third time he can even bring out the details that the teacher just reminded him of.
The teacher in charge glanced at him several times.
However, those few glances were enough to make the people in the same group feel uncomfortable.
During the break, a male trainee glanced at Jiang Tang's face, his tone tinged with barely concealed sourness.
"Did you study acting before? No wonder you're so good at stealing the spotlight."
Several people nearby heard this and slowed down their drinking.
Jiang Tang was unscrewing the water bottle when he heard this and looked up.
He wasn't angry; instead, he smiled.
"Thanks."
The male trainee's expression froze.
Am I praising you?
Jiang Tang took a sip of water, his tone very natural.
"I'll be happier if I take it as a compliment."
Someone nearby couldn't help but burst out laughing.
The male trainee's expression darkened further, and in the end, he could only let out a cold snort and turn his head back.
Jiang Tang didn't provoke him any further.
He is slowly realizing that although being a trial trainee is at the bottom of the class, it also has some advantages.
He wasn't assigned to a specific male trainee group, nor did he have to immediately participate in the competition within a pre-debut group, so the teachers arranged for him to audit basic classes in different classrooms.
He gets involved in vocal lessons, dance lessons, acting lessons, camera training, and even some vocalization and language courses.
Others think this arrangement is time-consuming and makes it easy to not master anything.
Jiang Tang, however, felt that it suited her very well.
Because he is a writer, he was enjoying the trip while also collecting material.
In his eyes, the entire training room for the trial group was actually a small film crew.
Some people are the main characters; they can attract attention from the moment they walk in.
Some people are supporting actors who practice very hard, but they can never find their place.
Some people try desperately to steal the spotlight, but the harder they try, the more pathetic they appear.
Jiang Tang suddenly felt that the SM building itself was like a story.
But none of the characters here know if they'll survive to the next episode.
The trial training group finished its training before evening.
Jiang Tang waited for Kim Tae-yeon to arrive in the small practice room, and took the opportunity to practice his stance in front of the mirror.
"If you turn around and look at this spot immediately, the audience should remember this point."
As Jiang Tang was thinking, a figure suddenly appeared in the mirror.
Han Zhengxun stood at the door.
He was just passing by, but after a few seconds, the indifference on his face slowly turned into silence.
This kid really learns quickly.
Last night in the monitoring room, Yu Yongzhen's rhetorical question echoed in Han Zhengxun's ears again.
"So this is what you meant by... nothing special?"
Han Zhengxun's expression was somewhat unnatural.
Jiang Tang noticed him in the mirror, stopped what she was doing, turned around and bowed.
"Team Leader Han."
Han Zhengxun snapped out of his thoughts, glanced at Jiang Tang, and spoke in a less than gentle tone.
"The end-of-month review is coming soon."
Jiang Tang nodded: "Yes."
Han Zhengxun looked at him.
The child looks much the same as the externally recommended student he scolded in the hallway yesterday, yet there seems to be something different about him.
Han Zhengxun paused for a second before speaking coldly: "Not many people will stay in the trial group. If you really want to stay, then practice hard."
Jiang Tang looked up, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes.
These words still sound like a reprimand, but they are different from yesterday's.
Yesterday, the way Han Zhengxun looked at him was basically like he was looking at an externally recommended student who would be eliminated sooner or later.
Today, however, this sentence carries a stronger connotation of "admonition".
Han Zhengxun had already turned around, but paused again before leaving.
"Also, stop hanging around the A group's practice room all the time."
Jiang Tang watched his retreating figure and couldn't help but stroke his chin.
Why is Team Leader Han suddenly acting like a strict homeroom teacher as he passes by and gives us a reminder today?
Before he could figure it out, the practice room door was pushed open again.
