Chapter 496: Returning to the Palace
Chapter 496: Returning to the Palace
Upon hearing this, the Emperor's sharp gaze swept over the crowd below the stage, his eyes icy cold, and it could be said that many ministers retreated wherever his gaze fell.
After confirming several times that everyone had calmed down, the emperor flicked his sleeves and left.
"Arrange for someone to bring the Crown Princess back to the capital. Don't make too much noise. Also, bring that county magistrate back along the way. I still need him, so I can't kill him."
"Yes, Your Majesty, I will arrange it immediately and ensure it is sent back as quickly as possible."
Two days later.
Lin Rusi looked at the simple carriage in front of her, and without thinking, sat down inside, glancing at the side courtyard again out of the corner of her eye.
Finding no movement there, she turned away in disappointment and left.
By the time Li Jingyang realized it, the magistrate's mansion was already deserted, with no one there.
But this was not what Lin Rusi cared about; she was now more concerned about Changning, who was placed in the palace.
The carriage stopped at the palace gate, and the traveler, ignoring the dust and grime covering his body, hurried toward the imperial study.
"Greetings, Your Majesty."
"No need to look anymore. Changning is still studying with the teacher and will be able to come out in another half hour."
Hearing that her son had not been bullied and was still studying, Lin Rusi breathed a sigh of relief and quietly explained the situation to the Emperor.
Never did the emperor expect so many things to happen. His brow furrowed more and more, but in the end, it still fell on the woman in front of him.
"Thanks a lot."
"Your Majesty, what are you saying? As long as I am in this position, I should fulfill these responsibilities. How can you say it is hard work?"
Just as Lin Rusi was negotiating with the Emperor, a figure rushed over quickly.
Only when he was nestled in that familiar embrace did he raise his head, revealing his tender little face.
"Changning feels like my mother. When will we leave the palace?"
"You really want to leave your imperial grandfather that badly?"
Changning seemed to have gotten used to the Emperor's two faces, one in public and one in private, and even sighed before bowing to the Emperor.
The movements were extremely standard, clearly indicating that they had been trained by those masters.
Lin Rusi gently patted her son's head, stood up, and bowed in return.
"Your Majesty has taken good care of me these past few days. I will take Changning back to care for her now."
"Goodbye, Grandfather. I will come back to see you again in the future."
The emperor had no idea when that "future" would be, and without caring about anything else, he simply waved to Changning.
When the child came to her, she put a jade pendant that she always carried with her on the child's waist.
"Since you've finally come back, why don't you have your meal in the palace before heading back?"
"Thank you, Father, but I am quite disheveled from my journey, so I will not linger here any longer."
Guessing that this was because of the Empress Dowager, the Emperor didn't say anything more and waved his hand, instructing the guards to take him directly out of the palace.
The two sat in the car, having endless things to talk about.
Especially Changning, who was away from her mother for the first time, kept talking non-stop.
She recounted everything from so-called ancient poems to what clothes she wore each day and what games she played with the little eunuchs, and then hugged him tightly without getting tired.
Never had she imagined Changning would be so clingy, so Lin Rusi had no choice but to make an exception and carry him back to the courtyard in her arms.
"Changning, would you like to go out and have some fun?"
"Is it alright? But Grandfather said it's too dangerous outside and he doesn't want Changning to run around."
"That's because she doesn't have a mother. If she had a mother, who would dare to bully Changning?"
Upon hearing this, he, who already regarded his mother as omnipotent, immediately nodded and looked longingly out of the yard.
With the child's consent, Lin Rusi had someone take him downstairs to get something to eat. She then washed up, changed into more comfortable clothes, and left in the carriage again.
Li Jingyang's side.
Upon learning that Lin Rusi had returned to Beijing, he did not delay at all and rushed back to the capital.
The Emperor naturally learned of this immediately and ordered his guards to bring the person into the palace.
He thought Lin Rusi would stay in the palace with Changning, so he didn't think much of it, changed his clothes, and rushed to the palace.
"What are you looking around for? Could it be that there's something in this palace that you're eyeing?"
"Where are Changning and the others? Aren't they in the palace with Father Emperor?"
Upon hearing this, the Emperor sighed and looked at Li Jingyang, who had returned a step later, with even more disdain.
“If you had come back with her, she would naturally have been in the palace. But without your support, she didn’t stay a moment longer, and left with Changning without even having a meal.”
Is this even possible? Has the Empress Dowager been bullying them again?
Thinking of this, Li Jingyang suddenly raised his head, and only after seeing the Emperor waving his hand to indicate that the two had not made any contact did he look away.
"Since that's the case, I need to go back to find my mother and son, so I won't disturb Father's rest any longer."
Without giving the emperor a chance to speak, Li Jingyang turned around and left the imperial study, hurrying towards the villa that belonged to the three of them.
But when he pushed open the door and saw that there were only a few servants cleaning the courtyard, he immediately sensed something was wrong and looked at one of them.
"Where are the Crown Princess and Changning?"
"Your Highness, the Crown Princess took the young master out yesterday, saying she wanted to go out for a walk to relax."
Want to clear your head? It's probably just that she doesn't want to see him again.
Li Jingyang panicked and turned to go out again to look for the person.
But just as his foot was about to step out of the threshold, his body suddenly froze, and he stood still, unable to move.
"What's wrong with the Crown Prince?"
"I remember you're married? If your wife is upset with you, what's the reason?"
The servant never imagined that someone as intelligent as the Crown Prince would ask him such a question. He frowned, thought for a moment, and then came up with an answer.
"gamble?"
"Think of another one."
“I remember another time my wife got angry, apparently because I took it upon myself to go to the back mountain where there are man-eating tigers.”
The servant thought and thought, recalling the time when his wife was most angry, and his body trembled slightly.
“At that time, when she found out that I had come back without any problems, she was so angry that her body was shaking. She almost made a scene and went back to her parents’ home. I had to cry and beg her to stay.”
Upon hearing this, Li Jingyang frowned even more deeply.
The servants thought he wasn't satisfied with this answer and wanted to think about something more before replying.
But before he could utter a sound, he felt a gust of wind rush past him.
When he opened his eyes again, he saw his own crown prince sitting on the horse that had finally managed to eat some grass in the backyard.
Li Jingyang kept waving his whip, his mind filled with Lin Rusi's whispers in his ear.
Although he was unconscious at that time, he could hear the sounds of the outside world, all of which were filled with fearful trembling.
I thought it was just a fright that would be easily comforted, but now I realize that it might still be a bit angry.
Li Jingyang suddenly gained the ability to put himself in others' shoes. He had just imagined Lin Rusi lying in the wild covered in blood when he snapped the whip in his hand.
