Chapter 14 Peace
Chapter 14 Peace
Pei Min stood at the door of Su Jue's house. He didn't go in directly, but lit a cigarette instead.
If they find me, I won't do anything.
As Pei Min thought this, he exhaled a puff of smoke.
According to the plan, Liu Xu would still need an hour to reach Pingchuan City, so he arrived at Su Jue and the others' hiding place ahead of time.
In fact, he had already discovered their hiding place. The morgue had been established for so long and had members all over the world, let alone in Pingchuan City. It would be easy to find them if he really wanted to.
But should we really kill them?
Pei Min sat at the top of the stairs, silently smoking a cigarette.
The flames spread little by little, as if urging something on, and soon climbed up to the cigarette butt.
The flames rose again, and Pei Min lit a second one.
……
"Su Huai, are we just going to come out like this? Aren't you afraid Pei Min will just kill them both?" Jiang Qin fiddled with a chip in his hand.
"No way, if I really kill him, then I'll admit defeat." Su Huai waved his hand. "Hehe, now you'd better protect me."
"Actually, I didn't think you were looking for this guy." Jiang Qin tossed the chip in his hand high, the chip covered in golden symbols. "Let me think about whose chip to use... yours, Pei Min."
Su Huai hid behind Jiang Qin, smiling as he looked at the densely packed crowd of life and death before him.
"The little guy has been very unruly lately, I need to help Shuangyu deal with him."
……
"Old Pei went out by himself? Good, it's alright, I'll be there soon. Also, don't tell him I left early." In the back seat of a speeding Bentley, a bespectacled, refined man calmly hung up the phone.
"Old Pei, you mean... you want to let them go?" The man took off his glasses and put them aside.
After the car shook slightly, cracks began to appear in the glasses.
Liu Xu knew that Pei Min would soften his heart, so he left ahead of time without telling him. He wanted to deal with the potential trouble himself.
He could not allow the peace that the morgue had maintained for thousands of years to be destroyed by such a potential threat.
……
That night, the moon was obscured by dark clouds, and the evening wind was fierce.
"Old Pei, you don't understand. Being too soft-hearted will only ruin the morgue's efforts over the past thousand years." Liu Xu put down his work and patiently advised Pei Min on the other end of the phone.
"Aren't they human? I won't even mention Fang Qi. Yes, I can't guarantee that his pollution can be resolved, but why should Su Jue die?" Pei Min said quickly on the other end of the phone, and you could tell that he was somewhat angry.
"Because he was helping Fang Qi, that's enough evidence. He's also a potential threat, and I can't guarantee he won't do something that would pose a great danger to humanity again." Liu Xu took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes with two fingers.
"I'm too lazy to explain to you. And what's this about sacrificing all the demon hunters in Pingchuan City? I've never heard of such a plan before... a plan that's been in the works for so long!" Pei Min's tone grew increasingly angry, on the verge of exploding.
"It's all for humanity." Liu Xu looked at the screen in front of him, which read "Project □□".
"Bullshit! Liu Xu! You kill dozens of people at once and you're telling me it's for humanity? Do you even consider them human beings?!" Pei Min's voice burst out uncontrollably from the phone.
"Pei Min! If they don't die, everyone in Pingchuan City and the surrounding cities will die. We have to sacrifice! If we can't make a choice, we'll end up losing everything!" Liu Xu's emotions also became agitated, and he shouted at Pei Min on the other end of the phone.
"Then why don't you just die!" Pei Min roared.
Liu Xu fell silent, panting heavily, before saying, word by word, "I can."
"..." Pei Min stopped talking, but he didn't hang up the phone.
Liu Xu didn't hang up. His hand seemed frozen, and he kept the phone to his ear. He could hear the sound of a lighter on the other end of the line, as well as Pei Min's sigh.
The silence lasted a long time, until Pei Min's voice came again: "I understand. You'll leave tomorrow when you arrive."
After speaking, he remained silent for half a minute before hanging up the phone.
……
Pei Min closed his eyes, took the last puff of the cigarette, threw it on the ground, and then picked up another one to light.
"Still smoking? Don't smoke yourself to death." A familiar voice reached Pei Min's ears from down the stairs.
"Old Liu? Aren't you...?" Pei Min dropped the unlit cigarette in his hand to the ground. He stood up and subconsciously leaned towards the door.
"I left early, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to catch them today, right?" Liu Xu walked straight to the door without saying another word.
"I'll do it." Pei Min kicked the door panel to pieces first.
"Damn it! What's going on? The security door was kicked down in one go? Is the boss even human?!" Inside the room, Fang Qi was facing the door when he saw Pei Min and a man wearing glasses.
At that moment, a loud bang was heard from inside the room.
They realized someone was outside the moment Liu Xu spoke. In order to avoid being discovered, he planned to secretly burn down the security window and then jump down.
Now that it seemed unnecessary, Su Jue simply blew up the window.
"You can't get away!" Pei Min caught a glimpse of a creature floating beside Liu Xu out of the corner of his eye, and rushed to Liu Xu once again, drawing the sword from his waist.
That was the first time Su Jue and Fang Qi saw that sword. Its blade was a spine. When the sword was first drawn, it was burning red-hot, and even the surrounding air was distorted by the high temperature. A second later, the blade emitted a bone-chilling cold, freezing everything around it.
Su Jue had read the information Xu Menghe had sent. The morgue's No. 1 weapon file stated that this sword constantly switched between high and low temperatures, like breathing, possessing extremely terrifying destructive power. It represented the upper limit of Pei Min's abilities, and its name was "Xihe Tears."
Pei Min's sword-wielding hand instantly became nothing but bone under the influence of the intense heat and cold. He swung the sword forcefully, and an ice wall large enough to fill the entire room rose high. The impact of the ice wall sending Fang Qi flying.
Pei Min jumped over the ice wall before it was fully erected, leaving Liu Xu alone at the doorway.
Su Jue, who had been by the window for a while, immediately came out to catch Fang Qi and pulled him toward the window.
"Snap"
The snap of his fingers revealed a path already laid out on the ground; Su Jue thought this would at least stop Pei Min.
Fang Qi jumped out of the window first, and he followed closely behind, but before he went out, he inadvertently saw it.
Pei Min wiped away Xi He's tears!
There was no time to stop it; as the structure shattered, it brought with it a series of explosions.
He hadn't even expected this to completely stop Pei Min, as the Xihe Tear was indeed very powerful.
But to his surprise, Pei Min sheathed his sword. An explosion of that magnitude would leave anyone crippled, if not killed.
Su Jue gripped the window tightly, closed her eyes, and jumped out.
"sorry."
Su Jue had no way to show his kindness at this time.
Was he wrong? But if he stayed, he would be the one to die; he couldn't possibly defeat a Level 2 Demon Slayer.
The moment Xihe's Tears were taken back, his hand returned to its original state, and the ice wall began to melt.
"Old Pei!" Liu Xu saw Pei Min standing motionless in place, enduring the damage from the explosion.
Liu Xu wanted to chase after Su Jue, but he caught Pei Min before he collapsed.
"You won't die..." Pei Min hooked his arm tightly around Liu Xu's shoulder.
"Let's not chase it today, so don't exert yourself too much," Liu Xu sighed.
"The peace I need is not obtained through the unrest of a few." Pei Min held up two fingers. "Any cigarettes? Mine got blown up."
"You don't even have clothes to wear, and you're thinking about smoking? Don't smoke today." Liu Xu helped Pei Min prepare to go downstairs.
"Why are you dragging me along if we're not going to fight?" Pei Min picked up Xi He's Tears.
Liu Xu took the Xihe Tears with one hand and supported Pei Min with the other: "I just disagree with your ideas. Forget it, Su Jue... we can let him live. But..."
Liu Xu stopped: "Fang Qi must die. For the sake of peace in the world, this sacrifice is necessary."
