Chapter 233 Blind to Truth
Chapter 233 Blind to Truth
It was very late when I got home.
Song Huan tiptoed through the living room. All the lights were off, except for the dim yellow light in the hallway.
My parents' bedroom door was closed, and no light was coming through the crack; they must have already gone to sleep.
He gently pushed open his door, went inside, and closed it behind him.
He placed the backpack on the table, unzipped it, and took out the silver box from inside.
The Samsung SGH-U608's screen is lit, displaying the time.
He downloaded QQ, entered his account and password, and logged in.
His name is still "Song Xiaoshuai".
There is a person in my friend list with a gray profile picture and the name "Cheerful Little Cloud".
He opened the chat window, typed a line of text, and sent it.
"Are you home yet?"
After waiting for about ten seconds, the profile picture lit up.
"Cheerful little cloud: I'm home, taking a bath."
Song Huan leaned against the headboard, smiled, and typed another line.
"Have you been waiting for my message?"
There was a moment of silence on the other end.
"Cheerful Little Cloud: No, I was just looking at my phone. I'm not talking to you anymore."
Song Huan smiled helplessly, put her phone on the bedside table, and went to wash up.
His phone vibrated while he was brushing his teeth, but he didn't hear it.
While washing his face, the phone vibrated again. He heard it, quickly wiped his face, went back to his room, and picked up his phone.
The screen showed two unread messages, both sent by Xiao Yunqing.
"Cheerful Little Cloud: Huanhuan, why did you think of giving me high heels?"
"Cheerful Little Cloud: Didn't you say before that I looked awful in that outfit?"
Song Huan lay down on the bed, held her phone up to her face, thought for a moment, and typed a line of text.
"So, you have to wear it, take a picture, and slap me in the face. Then step on my face and say, 'See? My legs are so beautiful! You, Song Huan, are blind!'"
The message was sent, and there was silence on the other end.
One second, two seconds, ten seconds, twenty seconds.
Song Huan stared at the screen, waiting.
My phone finally vibrated.
"Cheerful Little Cloud: You're a pervert!"
Song Huan laughed and sent a lecherous emoji, her eyes turning into two hearts and her mouth grinning.
The chat interface is quiet again.
One minute, two minutes, three minutes.
He thought she wouldn't reply and was about to turn off his phone when the screen flickered again.
Xiao Yunqing sent me a photo.
Song Huan's heart skipped a beat. She clicked on the video and zoomed in.
In the photo, Xiao Yunqing is standing in front of a full-length mirror. She has changed out of her school uniform and is wearing a white nightgown, her hair is loose, and she is wearing high heels.
White, thin straps, and tiny flowers on the shoe surface shimmering under the light.
The hem of the nightgown reached just to her thighs, revealing a pair of straight, long, white legs with smooth lines in her calves and slender ankles. The straps of her high heels wrapped around her legs, making her skin appear even whiter.
She turned slightly to the side, holding her phone in one hand and letting the other hang by her side. Her face was expressionless, but the corners of her mouth were upturned, and her cheeks were flushed with shyness.
Song Huan stared at the photo and swallowed hard.
My finger paused on the screen for a moment, then tapped it, and then tapped it again.
Save.
"Is it pretty?" Xiao Yunqing asked.
Song Huan replied: "It looks good."
"Song Huan, you're blind!"
Even through the screen, Song Huan could see her arrogant demeanor; her lips were pouting, her chin was raised, but her eyes were bright.
He smiled and was about to reply when the photo suddenly disappeared, replaced by a line of gray text on a white background.
"The other party retracted a message."
Why did you withdraw it?
"I won't show it to you."
Song Huan replied with a smile, "I've already saved it."
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end.
"You're a real pervert!"
Song Huan placed her phone next to her pillow; the screen was still lit.
He stared at the ceiling, a smirk playing on his lips.
After a while, the phone vibrated again.
He picked it up and looked at it.
"Good night."
He replied as well.
"Good night."
……
There are ten days left until the college entrance examination.
Song Huan now studies with her eyes open and closed every day, almost to the point of being completely absorbed and oblivious to her surroundings.
I got up at six in the morning and didn't get home until 11:30 at night. Except for eating and going to the toilet, I didn't leave my chair at all.
I did test papers one after another, flipped through my error notebook again and again, and used up pen refills one after another.
Xiao Yunqing was the same; her face was even more haggard than his, with bluish-gray circles under her eyes and her lips almost bloodless.
She used to look in the mirror, but now she doesn't even look in the mirror. She lies on the table doing her homework, then closes her eyes while writing, only to suddenly open them again a few seconds later and continue writing.
After class this afternoon, Xiao Yunqing lay on the desk with her face buried in her arms.
Song Huan was writing a problem next to her. After writing two lines, she heard a muffled sound coming from under her arm.
"Song Huan, I want to see the sea."
He put down his pen and turned to look at her.
Her hair was loose, covering half of her face, and the exposed half was a little pale.
"We're in class right now, how can we go see it? Besides, we have evening self-study tonight."
Xiao Yunqing lifted her face from her arms, looked at him, and pouted, "But I just want to go."
Her innermost thoughts drifted over from that direction, very light, like a taut string about to snap.
[The pressure is too much.]
[I can't breathe.]
I just want to go out for a walk.
[Go with him.]
Song Huan looked at her without saying anything.
She buried her face again, as if what she had just said was merely an emotional outburst.
The school bell rang in the afternoon.
Xiao Yunqing packed her schoolbag, stood up, and looked at Song Huan.
"Let's go eat."
Song Huan also stood up and slung her schoolbag over her shoulder.
The two walked out of the classroom, down the stairs, across the playground, and to the school gate.
Instead of heading towards the food street, Song Huan turned a corner and walked towards the side of the street.
Xiao Yunqing followed behind and asked, "Where are we going? Aren't we going to eat?"
Song Huan didn't answer. She walked to a parked electric scooter on the side of the street and stopped.
He took a bunch of keys out of his pocket, inserted them, and turned them.
The car lights flashed briefly.
Xiao Yunqing was stunned. "Whose car is this?"
"Borrowed from Chen Xu's mother."
Song Huan got on and patted the back seat.
Then he smiled at her and said, "Get in the car, I'll take you to see the sea."
Xiao Yunqing stood by the roadside, looking at him.
The setting sun shone on his face, making his eyes shine brightly.
"Yay!"
She smiled, climbed onto the back seat, and settled in.
Song Huan twisted the accelerator, and the car lurched forward.
She reached out and grabbed the hem of his clothes, clutching it tightly.
The wind blew by, making her hair flutter.
Electric bikes weaved through the streets, overtaking one vehicle after another. The trees along the roadside receded, the buildings receded, and the pedestrians also receded.
Xiao Yunqing's hair was a mess from the wind, but she ignored it, pressed her face against Song Huan's back, and closed her eyes.
The car stopped at the seaside.
Song Huan kicked down the footrest, the car tilted slightly, but she steadied it.
Xiao Yunqing jumped out of the car, stood on the beach, and looked at the sea.
The sun had already sunk halfway down, its orange-red light spreading across the sea in fragmented, shimmering patterns.
She took off her shoes, held them in her hand, and stepped onto the sand.
The sand was soft; your toes sank into it when you stepped on it, and it felt warm.
Song Huan followed behind, also taking off her shoes, carrying them, and stepping in her footprints.
The two walked on the beach for a while.
Xiao Yunqing stopped, threw her shoes aside, and lay down on the beach.
The sand had been warm in the sun all day and was still warm.
She spread her arms like a bird spreading its wings.
Song Huan lay down next to her, her hands behind her head.
The clouds on the horizon changed from orange-red to pinkish-purple, and then from pinkish-purple to grayish-blue.
The scattered gold on the sea surface grew narrower and darker.
A cool breeze blew in from the sea.
The moon rose from the other side of the sea, crescent-shaped and thin, like a faint tooth mark.
The moonlight spilled onto the sea, breaking into small, silvery, and bright pieces.
Xiao Yunqing turned her head to look at Song Huan.
His eyes were closed, his breathing was light, and the corners of his mouth were slightly upturned; it was unclear what he was thinking.
She turned back and looked at the sky.
Song Huan's voice suddenly came through.
"Little Cloud, after graduation, will we still see each other every day?"
"Um?"
Xiao Yunqing was taken aback, but did not answer.
The two lay on the beach, enjoying the sea breeze, watching the sun and moon alternate, and watching the moon slowly rise.
The moon that night was too light to hold down the wings of an eighteen-year-old.
……
Song Huan suddenly opened her eyes and sat up. "What time is it?"
He took his phone out of his pocket, glanced at it, and saw it was 6:50.
We have to go to evening self-study at 7:30!
He stood up and dusted himself off.
"Hurry up, we're going to be late."
Xiao Yunqing also stood up, picked up her shoes, and ran.
The two ran barefoot across the beach, onto the road, found the electric scooter, got on, and twisted the throttle.
The car sped along the street, the wind so strong it was hard to open your eyes.
Song Huan squinted, staring at the road ahead.
Xiao Yunqing sat in the back, her school uniform jacket swaying in the wind.
Just as I arrived at the school gate, the bell for evening self-study rang.
"Run!"
Song Huan parked the car on the side of the road, and the two of them jumped out and ran towards the school.
Xiao Yunqing's shoes pattered on the cement floor.
Song Huan ran ahead and called out back.
"Hurry up, we're late!"
……
During our student days, we were always on the go.
I ran to the cafeteria, ran back to the classroom, and ran into the dormitory, thinking I could catch up with everything in my haste.
Only later did I realize that as we ran wildly, we also lost our youth along with us.
