Chapter 47 Complaint Letter
Chapter 47 Complaint Letter
Li Ang gripped Helena by the back of the neck, like lifting a disobedient Hakimi, as they walked from the storage room back into the corridor. Shirley followed behind him, curiously peeking out, her long blue hair bobbing up and down.
"By the way, how did you catch her?" Sherry asked.
"Her abilities also seem to affect her physical strength. When she shrinks, her strength also decreases."
Li Ang raised the shrunken, figurine-sized object between his fingers a little higher, making it clearer for Shirley.
"Really? Let me try." Shirley said and was about to reach out, but Li Ang quickly moved Helena away a little.
The main concern is how strong this woman is. If she accidentally crushes the mini version of Helena that I just caught, then I'll have no one to complain to.
"When I saw her, she was digging a hole with a small shovel."
Seeing that she couldn't reach it, Shirley had no choice but to withdraw her hand. She thought about it seriously for a moment, then clapped her hands and said, "Is she addicted to digging holes?"
Li Ang glanced at her but didn't reply.
Helena, who was being held in someone's hand, struggled weakly: "I'm not addicted... I just want to escape..."
"Trying to escape?" Li Ang scoffed. "The entire mansion is protected by a protective barrier. Where do you think you can run to?"
Helena immediately replied, "Of course I know. But that barrier only covers the surface area; it doesn't cover the underground area, so I can dig a tunnel to get around it."
Shirley scratched her head, causing a tuft of her short blue hair to stick up, and suddenly realized, "So my barrier can't extend underground... I never even thought about that."
Li Ang stopped and turned to look at Shirley. He opened his mouth as if to say something, but then swallowed his words.
I thought you were really amazing, but it turns out your barrier has such a huge flaw!
More importantly, the person in question seems to be unaware of this matter.
Li Ang's feelings instantly became incredibly complicated.
"Luckily we found out early," he said, "otherwise she would have gotten away."
Sherry, unusually, didn't respond, but simply put her hands behind her back and nodded in strong agreement.
The two of them returned to the small living room on the second floor, which served as a temporary rest area.
Charlotte sat in a chair by the window, with three cups of black tea, still steaming, on the small round table in front of her. She had obviously prepared them in advance, anticipating their return.
Upon seeing the two return, he did not get up, but simply pushed his teacup forward.
Sherry handed Helena over, "Little Titi, your witch."
Charlotte didn't reach out to take it. She looked down at the tiny figure curled up in Shirley's palm and asked, "Where did you catch it?"
"Storage room. She's digging a tunnel." Li Ang sat down next to her. "Shirley said her barrier only covers the area above ground, and she's using this blind spot to dig a tunnel."
Charlotte's gaze shifted to Sherry's face, but Sherry guiltily looked away, pretending to study the patterns on the ceiling.
She had clearly realized that she had almost let the prisoner escape, and now, facing Charlotte's oppressive gaze, she surprisingly remained silent.
"We'll talk about the barrier when we get back." Charlotte didn't say much more, but took a handkerchief out of her pocket and spread it on the table.
Sherry understood and placed Helena in the center of the handkerchief.
Helena stood on the handkerchief, looking up at Charlotte. Although she was only up to the rim of the teacup, her gaze was calm and open, without any hesitation.
"Just kill me already!"
Her expression at that moment was exactly like that of the female knight in the Gusha storyline.
Charlotte did not do as she wished. Instead, she took out a stack of letters from her bosom. They were unsigned, with only the Detective Association's wax seal, a scale, and a magnifying glass on them.
She placed the envelope on the table and pushed it in front of Helena.
"The servants in this mansion weren't doing nothing."
Charlotte slowly began, "Over the past five years, the Detective Association has received fourteen letters of complaint, seven of which were written by the old butler of this mansion."
"In his letters, he meticulously documented the entire process of the Viscount purchasing maids, abusing them to death, and bribing law enforcement officials. Each letter included specific dates, the names of the victims, and all the evidence he could gather."
Li Ang subconsciously peeked out.
He never expected that Charlotte had known the truth about the mansion all along, and that he was the only one kept in the dark all along.
"So you already knew?" he asked.
"Of course. The association sent me to investigate the truth about this mansion, and those corrupt officials in the police department who accepted bribes. The Viscount's commission was just a side opportunity."
"He thought I was just an ordinary detective who knew nothing, and he paid me a lot of money to find out where a gemstone was. Little did he know, what I was looking for was far more important than the stone he had lost."
She leaned back in her chair, picked up the still-steaming cup of black tea, and gently blew on it.
Li Ang leaned back in his chair and let out a long breath.
He recalled that from the moment he entered the mansion, Charlotte had approved of his actions, tolerated his arguing with the Viscount, and had not even stopped him from going to the basement alone.
It turns out the other party already knew everything.
"You never intended to stop me from the beginning," Li Ang said. "Were you waiting for me to find that evidence?"
Charlotte nodded. "That's why I said before that your performance was a little bit better than I expected, Assistant."
After she finished speaking, she made a gesture of pointing to the universe.
It turned out to be the case.
So that's what the other person meant.
Helena stared in disbelief at the stack of letters, then quickly unfolded them one by one to read the contents, which were exactly the same as what Charlotte had said.
"So those servants reported it before?"
"Of course. So they didn't do nothing."
"Impossible. These letters aren't even signed. I don't believe it." Helena shook her head repeatedly, clearly not believing Charlotte's words.
"Who reports someone using their real name?" Li Ang was amused by her strange remark.
In this era, for a servant of a mansion to dare to report on their employer was already considered incredibly audacious; if they dared to sign their name, they would have been long gone.
Moreover, with his ability providing hints, the clues on these letters also appeared, and seven of them were from the same author, which seemed to be the old butler.
As for how the association figured out the source of the letter, one can only say that the methods of these detectives should not be underestimated.
They might have similar abilities to themselves, able to recognize someone's true name at a glance.
Charlotte's subsequent words confirmed Lord's suspicions.
"These things have been confirmed by the association's detectives, and I have no reason to explain further to you. Whether you believe it or not is your own business. Now, you only need to answer your motive for the crime."
