Chapter 53 The Association's Vice President
Chapter 53 The Association's Vice President
Li Ang glanced at Charlotte on the ground, then reluctantly walked over and opened the door a crack.
The old butler, Donald, was standing outside the door.
He showed no surprise when he saw that it was Li Ang who opened the door, after all, he had seen Li Ang and Charlotte go upstairs together before.
"Lord Li Ang," he bowed slightly, "a distinguished guest has arrived and is waiting in the living room downstairs."
Li Ang opened the door a little wider and turned to the side to block the view behind him.
"Who?"
"Ms. Lina Asland, the vice president of the Detective Association," Donald began. "She said she has important business to discuss with Miss Charlotte, and also needs to meet with her new assistant."
They really know how to find the right time.
Charlotte was lying on the floor, her blood still wet, when the important figures from the association arrived downstairs.
But I shouldn't be considered a murderer, right? After all, what if it's just that the resurrection time was a little long?
Li Ang took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down.
"Mr. Donald, Miss Charlotte... is not available to receive guests. Could you please attend to this Vice President first? I'll be right down."
"The vice president has been seated in the living room. Tea has been served." The old butler didn't ask any further questions. "I'll go and inform the vice president that you'll be arriving shortly."
He bowed, turned and left, his leather shoes making no sound on the carpet.
Li Ang closed the door, went to Charlotte, and observed her again. Fortunately, this time his clue words finally changed.
Charlotte Holmes, the famous detective, is currently being resurrected.
It turns out that the resurrection time was simply increased.
Li Ang breathed a sigh of relief after figuring things out.
I can only say that I was misled by the detective's initial statement that "the resurrection time is very short," and I thought I had really killed the other party.
I must never agree to such a request again; it's too terrifying.
Li Ang walked down the stairs.
The living room door was open, and sunlight streamed in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating the woman sitting on the sofa.
Her long black hair cascaded over her shoulders, the ends slightly curled. Her features were the kind that wouldn't be striking at first glance, but grew on you the more you looked.
She was around thirty years old, a stage where maturity and elegance intertwined, and she could captivate attention without any deliberate embellishment.
The moment she saw Li Ang, she slowly stood up, her deep purple skirt cascading down, one hand resting in front of her, the other reaching out towards Li Ang.
"You are Leon Moriarty?" she asked.
"It's me." Li Ang walked to the coffee table, but didn't sit down; he just stood there. "You are...Ms. Lina Asland?"
"Just call me Lina."
She reached out and shook hands lightly with Li Ang, then sat back down on the sofa, her posture natural and relaxed, yet exuding an undeniable composure.
She raised her chin, gesturing for Li Ang to sit down as well.
Li Ang sat down in the chair opposite her, placing his hands on his knees, looking somewhat reserved.
There was no other way; just now, the moment he saw the vice president walk in through the door, he subconsciously activated his clue-providing ability.
Silver text appeared above her body—
[Lina Asland, Vice President of the Detective Guild, Sequence 3 Order Watcher.]
[Abilities: Ability Lockdown, Judgment of Sins, Suppression by Laws, ???, ???.]
[The ultimate limit a detective can reach, the absolute pinnacle, the absolute strongest.]
This target can unilaterally remove all ability effects from low-sequence ability users. When the distance is less than ten meters, it is advisable to avoid any hostile actions.
Li Ang's gaze lingered on the line of sequence 3 for a moment.
Sequence 3. This was the highest sequence level existence he had ever seen.
Even Charlotte is only Sequence 5, Sherry is Sequence 6, and Elena is Sequence 7.
Sequence 3 means that the gap between her and ordinary ability users is not something that can be described as "strong or weak", but rather a dimensional level of crushing superiority.
Especially in front of the other party, Li Ang could vaguely feel a certain kind of suppression.
Clearly, the passive effects of the opponent's ability alone can affect a low-level ability user like myself.
He lowered his gaze, burying those prompts deep into his memory, his face devoid of any extra expression.
"Your eyes," Lina picked up the teacup on the coffee table, took a sip, and looked at him through the rim of the cup with her grey-blue eyes, "a little strange."
Li Ang raised his head, a slight smile playing on his lips. "It's my first time meeting such a big shot as the vice president of the Detective Association. I'm a little nervous."
Lina put down her teacup and smiled, "I'm not that scary. Don't be so reserved."
"It's not that I'm being reserved," Li Ang immediately changed the subject, "it's just that so much has happened these past two days, I haven't recovered yet."
"I've heard about the Viscount's mansion." Lina nodded, her expression becoming more serious. "Helena's case has been transferred to the association's special investigation team, and the follow-up results will be reported directly to my desk."
"Holmes' initial report was excellent, and the on-site handling was also very good. As her assistant, you did a great job this time."
Li Ang nodded. "It's what I should do."
Victoria picked up her teacup again, took a sip, put it down, crossed her hands on her knees, and looked at Li Ang.
Her gaze was gentle, but Li Ang always felt that something was silently observing him from the depths of those gray-blue eyes.
"I'm here today not only to learn about the follow-up to the Viscount's case, but also for a personal matter."
She picked up a dark brown kraft paper folder from her side, placed it on the coffee table, and pushed it in front of Li Ang. "This is about your armed detective identity registration. I'll be personally reviewing it."
Li Ang looked down at the folder, which had a white label on the cover with his name on it.
"Charlotte's recommendation has a high reputation within the association and should theoretically require no review, but your situation is rather special."
"After all, there's no record of your awakened ability in the association's archives. Your name isn't on the detective school's register, and your ability isn't recorded in the annual census of ability users."
"You're like... an armed ability user who appeared out of nowhere?"
She said uncertainly, then stared intently into Li Ang's eyes.
"There has never been a single case of an ability user who awakened their abilities later in life. Everyone is born with them; they are naturally awakened at birth, discovered by the association, entered into a file, and sent to a school for training."
"But you are not."
"Your abilities awakened in that hotel; according to Charlotte, it was a completely sudden awakening."
Clearly, Charlotte omitted the fact that Leon only awakened after killing her, and simply said that he awakened suddenly.
Li Ang immediately realized this.
