Chapter 306: Ruins Battle: Sniper Contest
Chapter 306: Ruins Battle: Sniper Contest
Inside the air-raid shelter, the dim, flickering lights cast a distorted shadow over the crowd. Lei Tao grabbed Yoshijima Yuko by the collar, his gaze piercing her, intently staring into her eyes, trying to find a flaw behind that hostile gaze. Yoshijima Yuko glared back at Lei Tao, her face filled with stubbornness and unyielding determination.
"Don't waste your energy, you won't be able to get anything out of it." Yoshijima Yuko said with a sneer, a hint of provocation in her voice.
Lei Tao said nonchalantly, "Well, you've fallen into my hands anyway. Whether you confess or not, it doesn't affect me. I'll hand you over to the Military Control Commission anyway. It's up to you to take care of yourself!" Turning to Xu Keming, he said, "I've handed the person over to you. Don't forget our hard work fee," and pushed Yoshijima Yuko in front of Xu Keming.
Xu Keming caught Yoshijima Yuko steadily, a hint of displeasure flashing across his face. "Lei Tao, this is no joke. The information she carries is crucial to us. It concerns the lives of countless people. Don't just take the money and leave."
Lei Tao crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow. "Captain Xu, I'm just a paid employee. Prying her open is your Military Control Commission's specialty. What does it have to do with me?"
Lei Tao continued, "Now a few Japanese flies are still buzzing around our heads. I'm going to swat them to death and destroy the bomb hanging over our heads." As he spoke, he stretched his muscles and was about to walk towards the cave entrance.
Xu Keming quickly reached out to stop him, "Lei Tao, don't be impulsive! The situation outside is unclear, and that mysterious sniper is still in the dark. It's too dangerous for you to go out like this. Besides, this woman is stubborn, and I'm worried that we won't be able to pry her off soon. Why don't you stay and we can work together to find a solution? Maybe we can dig something useful out of her."
Lei Tao frowned, his eyes revealing a hint of unwillingness, "Captain Xu, I'm not afraid of danger. I can't bear to just stay here and wait for the Japanese to come and deal with us."
Meng Xiaoyu also advised, "Brother Lei, Captain Xu is right. We can't act rashly. This Yoshijima Yuko must know a lot. Let's work together and maybe we can find a breakthrough."
Lei Tao said, "It's a fact that Yoshijima Yuko has fallen into my hands, but we are all in this air-raid shelter, blocked by the sniper. If the Japanese spies they are hiding in are blocked here, they will be wiped out."
After saying this, Lei Tao ignored everyone's dissuasion, took a deep breath, stretched his muscles, pulled out the M1911 pistol from the holster on his leg, replaced the magazine, and walked towards the air-raid shelter entrance. His figure was very long in the dim light, revealing a sense of solitary courage.
Xu Keming sighed helplessly, turned around and shouted to the other agents: "Everyone, get ready. Once Lei Tao leads the enemy away, we will strengthen the defense of the air-raid shelter and never let the enemy get in." Then he looked at the agent guarding Yoshijima Yuko: "Keep an eye on her. If she intends to escape and still resists by grabbing the gun, then I don't want any information. Kill her on the spot!
Lei Tao had just reached the exit of the air-raid shelter when Japanese bombers were still pounding the city a kilometer away. Bomb after bomb landed, flames shot skyward, and a deafening roar shook the earth. Thick smoke billowed like a surging tide, choking and choking. Amidst this chaos, Lei Tao, peering through the thick smoke and catching sight of a glint on the mountainside not far away, illuminated by the sun.
Lei Tao's heart trembled. With his rich experience, he immediately realized that the reflection was most likely the sniper's scope reflecting sunlight. He quickly turned sideways, hugging the side of the air-raid shelter. His heartbeat suddenly accelerated, but his brain was working rapidly.
"Found it, so you're there." Lei Tao muttered to himself, his eyes fixed on the reflective spot, while his brain was rapidly thinking of a countermeasure. He knew that the sniper was watching closely, and if he was not careful and exposed his body, he would become a sitting duck.
Xu Keming and the other agents in the air-raid shelter nervously watched Lei Tao's every move. They sensed danger from his expression. Gripping his gun tightly, Xu Keming lowered his voice and said to the agents around him, "Be prepared! Support Lei Tao at any time." The agents nodded, their eyes revealing determination and tension.
Lei Tao took a deep breath and tried to calm himself. He knew he couldn't just sit there and wait for death; he had to take the initiative and disrupt the enemy's rhythm. He decided to take a risk and use the debris around him to create a noise and attract the sniper's attention.
Lei Tao pulled an M1 grenade from his waist, removed the safety pin, and hurled it forcefully toward the ruins to the right. "Boom!" The M1 grenade exploded in the ruins to the right, sending flames soaring into the sky. Thick smoke, swirling with rubble and dust, spread like surging waves. The resounding roar drowned out the roar of distant Japanese bombers and instantly broke the brief silence on the battlefield.
Lei Tao took advantage of the chaos caused by the explosion, crouching like a nimble cheetah, and sprinted toward the abandoned warehouse on his left. His steps were quick and light, and he moved nimbly through the ruins, his eyes always vigilantly observing the movement on the mountainside. The reflective point had shifted noticeably after the explosion, and Lei Tao's heart tightened, knowing that the sniper had indeed been attracted by the grenade and was re-locating him.
Just as Lei Tao was about to reach the abandoned warehouse, a bullet grazed the corner of his clothes, the sharp whistling sound like the whisper of death. He was startled, but his steps did not pause at all. Instead, he quickened his pace and rushed into the warehouse in one step.
The warehouse was filled with a decaying smell, and the surroundings were filled with dilapidated debris. Lei Tao hid behind a pile of wooden crates, quickly catching his breath. Sweat dripped down his forehead and onto the dusty ground. He gripped his M1911 pistol tightly, his eyes fixed on the mountainside through the cracks in the crates.
On the mountainside, the sniper, wearing a jungle ghillie suit, was hidden behind dense brush. His face was smeared with mud, blending in with the surroundings. He stared at the direction where Lei Tao had disappeared, his eyes cold and fierce, and the sniper rifle in his hand slowly moved in line with Lei Tao's movements. He cursed under his breath, frustrated that he had missed a good opportunity because of the grenade.
At this moment, Lei Tao turned off the safety of the pistol and put it back into the leg holster, and took out a VSS silent sniper rifle from the Bagua gyroscope space.
Lei Tao picked up his VSS silent sniper rifle, crouched down, and carefully sneaked out of the side door of the warehouse. He knew that every step he took against this experienced sniper must be cautious.
He moved slowly through the ruins, his eyes fixed on the suspicious bushes on the hillside. Suddenly, he stopped, bent down, picked up a fist-sized stone, and threw it at an abandoned car on the left. With a loud "clang," the stone hit the car's metal, making a crisp sound.
On the mountainside, the sniper heard the noise and quickly turned his gaze, which had been fixed on the warehouse, to the left. The moment he turned his head, Lei Tao spotted the barrel of a gun flashing through the bushes. "Got it!" Lei Tao exclaimed in delight. He immediately placed his VSS silenced sniper rifle on a broken wall and aimed at the bushes.
Lei Tao decided to test the waters again. He cut a bunch of grass from the ground, stuffed it inside his coat, and quickly threw it aside. Almost at the same moment, a flash of fire flashed from the mountainside. With a "bang", the bullet hit the coat. Lei Tao was shocked. The opponent's reaction speed and shooting skills were indeed amazing.
But this also made Lei Tao more certain of the sniper's location.
He quickly adjusted the muzzle of his rifle, aiming at the spot where the flash of fire had appeared. "Puff, puff, puff..." He quickly pulled the trigger, emptying the magazine. The barrage of bullets sent branches and leaves flying through the undergrowth, filling the air with leaf fragments and dust. Lei Tao knew that while suppressive fire might not necessarily hit the target directly, it would be enough to disrupt the sniper's rhythm. Taking advantage of this brief moment, he quickly stood up, crouched low, and sprinted towards a higher slope to the right.
His steps were quick and firm, moving nimbly across the uneven ground. The wind whistled in his ears, mingling with the smell of gunpowder, making his heart beat even faster. Just as he reached the bottom of the slope, a bullet whistled past his scalp, causing a sharp sting. With a start, Lei Tao realized the sniper hadn't panicked and was still fighting back.
Without a moment's hesitation, Lei Tao climbed the slope using his hands and feet, using a huge rock at the top as cover. He quickly stored the empty magazine of the VSS into the space of the Bagua Gyro and took out a sniper grenade.
Lei Tao skillfully loaded a grenade into the launcher, his eyes fixed on the direction where the sniper had just disappeared, silently estimating the distance and angle in his mind.
"Let's see where you can hide this time!" Lei Tao gritted his teeth and whispered, his eyes revealing determination and resolve. He slightly adjusted his posture, making his body fit more closely with the launcher to ensure the stability of the shot.
He then took a deep breath, exhaled slowly, and at the moment his breath ran out, he decisively pulled the trigger. With a loud "boom!", the grenade flew out with a sharp whistling sound, like a small cannonball, flying accurately towards the woods on the mountainside.
The grenade exploded in the woods, sending flames shooting into the sky. A powerful gust of wind swept through, shaking the surrounding trees violently. Some small branches were directly broken by the gust of wind and flew all over the sky. The thick smoke from the explosion quickly spread, enveloping the area.
Lei Tao did not relax his vigilance. He stared at the direction of the thick smoke, ready to deal with the sniper's counterattack or escape at any time. He knew that although this attack was powerful, the sniper's cunning and experience might not be able to eliminate it in one fell swoop.
Amidst the thick smoke, a faint smell of blood wafted through the air. Lei Tao quickly rushed down the slope toward the sniper. As he ran, he vigilantly observed his surroundings, alert for any hidden enemies. As he approached the sniper, his upper body had been blown to pieces, his sniper rifle completely obliterated. Lei Tao was delighted; it seemed the shot had indeed hit its target.
