Chapter 117: Dharma Name Wukong, Cutting Off the Past...
"Mahamati! Bodhisattvas-mahasattvas have four methods to achieve great practice. What are the four? They are observing the manifestations of one's own mind, being free from the view of birth, existence and extinction, knowing well that external phenomena have no nature, and seeking to realize the holy wisdom. If Bodhisattvas achieve these four methods, they can be called great practitioners."
"The Tathagata is so called because he realizes the Dharma nature with pure wisdom, not because of the false habits of the mind, consciousness, aggregates, realms, and dharmas. All three realms are born from false discrimination, but the Tathagata is not born from false discrimination." "From the first stage to the seventh stage, and even to the eighth stage, he attains non-discrimination. He sees all dharmas as illusions and dreams, free from the subject and the object. He sees the vast power of the mind and mental factors, diligently practices the Dharma to attain what has not been attained, and frees himself from the false discrimination of the mind, consciousness, and attains the patience of no birth. This is the Nirvana attained by the Bodhisattva, not the destruction of Nirvana."
"From the first stage to the seventh stage, and even to the eighth stage, one attains non-discrimination; sees all dharmas as illusions and dreams, free from the grasper and the grasped; sees the vast power of the mind and mental factors, diligently practices the Dharma to attain the unrealized, frees the mind, the will, the consciousness, and the false discriminations, and attains the patience of no birth; this is the nirvana attained by the bodhisattva, not extinction." Delusion makes illusions exist, and non-illusions become delusion. Because of the delusion of the mind, everything exists. Bound by this, the storehouse consciousness gives rise to the world. All such worlds are only created by false means. All views are like violent currents, flowing among people and dharmas. If one can know this, then one can transform the basis, and become my true son, and complete the dharma of compliance."
Chen Baoan muttered to himself and kept reading words from the Tripitaka in the meditation room.
Sitting cross-legged, golden light is already radiating from the body. This is... the truth.
It means that this person has seen through the world, severed all past causes and effects, regained enlightenment, and successfully found a trace of the fruit of the Tao.
'Boom, boom, boom'
"Donor, please have your meal."
The young monk opened the door and placed a bowl of steaming white porridge and two steamed buns in front of Chen Baoan.
Chen Baoan slowly raised his head, smiled and nodded to the young monk, then put the Tripitaka lying cross-legged aside.
He slowly picked up the bowl, blew away the hot air, and then carefully took a sip of the porridge. The warm liquid flowed down his throat into his body, as if a warm current instantly spread throughout his body.
He could feel his stomach slowly beginning to warm and his nerves gradually relaxing.
Every mouthful of porridge was like a kind of nourishment, comforting his body and soul. After finishing a bowl of porridge, Chen Baoan thanked the young monk repeatedly.
"Donor, you look much more energetic now."
The young monk laughed.
"Amitabha, thank you for your care these days."
Chen Baoan clasped his hands together and bowed.
"Amitabha, by the way, benefactor, the abbot wants to see you and asked me to take you to the meditation hall."
The young monk also put his hands together and said.
"it is good."
Chen Baoan responded, ate two steamed buns, and followed him out of the place where he had stayed for nearly a year.
Rather than calling it a monastery, this place is actually just a small room. Just as Abbot Bodhi said, what trapped him was never the monastery, but his obsession with the past.
Walking out of the prison room, he was bathed in the sunlight, his whole body enveloped in golden light.
The warm sunlight fell on him like a soft veil, making him feel the long-lost warmth.
Following the young monk, this was the first time that Chen Baoan saw the full picture of Guiyuan Temple. It was not as big as he had imagined, but it gave people a solemn and dignified feeling.
The architecture in the temple is simple and elegant, with red walls and yellow tiles, shaded by green trees and filled with the smell of incense, giving people a sense of tranquility and peace.
The first thing that catches your eye is a tall mountain gate with exquisite Buddha statues and scriptures engraved above the lintel.
Then there was a wide stone road under his feet, with towering trees planted on both sides. There were stone benches and stone tables under the shade of the trees for people to rest and enjoy the cool air.
Walking along the stone road, you will arrive at the Main Hall, where a huge Buddha statue is enshrined. In front of the statue are incense tables and incense burners, and the incense is very popular.
On both sides of the main hall are side halls, each of which houses different Buddha statues and gods. There are also bell towers, drum towers, and scripture towers in the temple, each of which is full of ancient and solemn atmosphere.
It was getting late at night and I couldn't see the entire temple clearly. This time, I finally made up for my carelessness.
"Donor, please stay."
Two monks blocked the way of the young monk and Chen Baoan.
"Amitabha, by the order of the abbot, we will take you to the meditation hall after we wash you clean."
The two of them wore Buddhist beads around their necks and saluted with their hands clasped together.
"Yes, I'll trouble you two masters."
Chen Baoan also saluted with his hands clasped together.
After saying goodbye, the young monk went to the meditation hall first.
Chen Baoan was taken away by two monks to wash away a year's worth of dirt on his body and shave off his hair.
He stood quietly by the pool, feeling the cool water hitting his body, as if washing away all the pain and filth of the past year.
The water drops fall on the ground, making a crisp sound, as if it is a declaration of new life.
He closed his eyes and quietly enjoyed the peaceful moment.
He thought back to his experiences over the past year, those painful days, those moments that had made him feel desperate.
They turned into obsessions that always surrounded him, making him miserable.
But now, he felt that everything was over, everything... was over.
"Amitabha, donor, please come this way."
Under the guidance of two monks, he came to the Zen hall. At this moment, Chen Baoan looked brand new, with no more evil spirit. Wearing Zen robes, he looked a little more easy-going.
In the Zen hall, countless monks chanted scriptures in unison. The sound was like waves, constantly impacting people's hearts.
The sound of their chanting was like the sound of nature, which made Chen Baoan feel awed. The chanting seemed to have traveled through time and space, bringing him into a sacred and solemn world. Here, time seemed to stand still, and everything became so quiet and peaceful.
Every breath and every heartbeat merged with the sound of the chanting, making him feel an indescribable power.
This power continuously flowed into the depths of Chen Baoan's soul, greatly nourishing his heart.
"Amitabha."
All three of them spoke up, but no one chose to step forward to interrupt.
‘Clang! ’
The three of them sat cross-legged together again, clasped their hands together, held their breath and concentrated. All the sounds around them began to amplify: the sound of the wind, the sound of cicadas, and the sound of flowing water.
However, no matter how complex these sounds are, they cannot cover up the sound of chanting in the Zen hall.
An unknown amount of time had passed before the chanting gradually stopped and the voice of Abbot Bodhi came from inside, calling them in.
Chen Baoan and the two monks got up from the ground and pushed the door open.
In the Zen hall, countless monks sat on Zen beds and stood on both sides of the room.
Abbot Bodhi is sitting cross-legged on a Vimalakirti niche located in the middle of the back wall.
"Amitabha, please take a seat."
"Yes, Abbot."
Chen Baoan looked around nervously and saw the young monk who had been bringing him vegetarian meals, and two empty meditation beds, which must have belonged to the two masters who had brought him here.
At this moment, Chen Baoan saw an empty space in the middle, and there was an empty meditation bed facing him. He thought that this must be his position.
He walked forward and bowed to the abbot.
"Donor, please take a seat."
"Yes, Abbot."
Chen Baoan sat cross-legged, and unlike other monks, he was facing the abbot.
"I called you here today to formally ordain you."
"But it's because you have too much evil spirit and are too violent, so I chose to go to the Zen hall to use the positive energy of Buddhism to suppress your evil spirit."
"Amitabha."
Upon hearing this, Chen Baoan nodded slightly, then put his hands together and began to recite scriptures.
The deeper your practice, the more you can sense the evil spirit in your body.
The more you do this, the more you will find it difficult to drive away the evil spirit.
His calmness and clarity now only come from his reconciliation with his own evil spirit.
He admitted that he was a vain person, admitted his blood feud, admitted that he had mental problems, and admitted...that he was powerless now!
Therefore, the influence of obsession on him has faded, and he can sit in the Buddhist meditation hall with his current mentality.
"Amitabha……"
Abbot Bodhi spoke, picked up the burning incense stick, and dropped the hot end on Chen Baoan's head.
The ordination began, and the steady sound of chanting sutras was heard in the Zen hall again, suppressing evil spirits and purifying the mind.
When the incense sticks fell on his head, Chen Baoan already felt the stirrings in his heart.
An inexplicable emotion emerged in his mind. He wanted to tear everyone in front of him to pieces and turn the entire Guiyuan Temple upside down!
But he knew that this wouldn't work, it was his own evil spirit that was causing the trouble.
The more restless one's heart is, the more intense the pain will be when receiving the precepts.
The burning pain on his head was almost unbearable in Chen Baoan's eyes. The pain seemed to penetrate deep into his bones, forcing him to grit his teeth.
The sound of chanting kept coming into his mind, suppressing the evil spirit that was about to erupt again and again. Chen Baoan frowned, slowly opened his mouth, and began to chant.
My consciousness gradually became blurred, the light in front of my eyes faded, I felt a sense of weightlessness, and fell into darkness.
Chaos gave birth to the universe, the universe gave birth to stars, and the stars gave birth to heaven and earth!
In the vast starry sky of the universe, the stars are twinkling, like bright gems inlaid on the dark sky.
He also saw countless stars twinkling and coming towards him like a meteor shower.
These stars carry endless power and mysterious aura, as if they are messengers of the universe, coming to this world with a mission.
Their light streaked across the entire space, leaving behind beautiful arcs, and finally fell at his feet, converging into a gorgeous sea of stars.
"This place... feels so familiar."
Just when Chen Baoan’s consciousness was about to collapse completely, a voice came and knocked him back to the real time and space.
"You're here six years too early, go back!"
Even in the darkness, the green blade light is still so captivating.
Such a familiar feeling made him open his eyes quickly.
"I'm not crazy! That's real!!"
I kept shouting in my heart.
Only then did I realize that I had reached the final step in the ordination and my entire body was soaked with sweat.
"Amitabha, I hope you can understand the word 'emptiness' and seek the transcendence of body and soul. From now on, your Dharma name will be 'Wukong'."
