The WNBA was added to 2K's lineup three years ago in NBA 2K20, so it's a little surprising it's taken so long for a female athlete to be featured on the cover -- particularly since 2K Sports often releases multiple versions of the game, each featuring various athletes.
This year's 2K21 included, for instance, had Damian Lillard on the last-generation console version, Zion Williamson on the PS5 and Series X versions, and a special "Mamba Forever" edition honoring the late Kobe Bryant.
The cover that is standard will feature Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks' star player as well as the NBA 75th Anniversary Edition cover features NBA legends Dirk Nowitzki and Kareem AbdulJabbar. Another special edition that features the Washington Wizards' Rui Hachimura the only one that's available in Japan.
Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic, Chicago Sky and WNBA outstanding Candace Parker and Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant are among the players to be featured in the upcoming NBA 2K video game release, the company announced today. NBA legends Kareem Abdel-Jabbar (with Durant) will grace the cover the NBA 75th anniversary edition. Parker is the first WNBA player on the cover of NBA 2K's GameStop Exclusive Edition.
Durant appeared on the cover of NBA 2K13, along with Blake Griffin (and Derrick Rose), in the past. Doncic and Nowitzki are the first Mavericks to appear on the cover of the game's long history.
