"We're transforming the Pro Bowl for fans everywhere and bringing yet another wonderful NFL experience to life from the way only Madden NFL can," added Chris Bruzzo, EA's EVP of advertising. "We're excited to work closely with the NFL, our long-time spouse, to move the Pro Bowl into the digital fields of Madden NFL and participate in the first high-profile sporting event to go virtual. Our community is hungry for much more interactive experiences, so we're always working to make more chances to bring them closer to the sports that they love."
Famous writer EA is no stranger to controversy. When it's advertisements in UFC 4 or even review bombing of the hottest Madden NFL match, the company is frequently the target of players' ire. EA's latest controversy, dubbed #EAGATE on Twitter, is wrapped up at the ongoing controversy about loot boxes, especially from the Ultimate Team manner in FIFA 21. Ultimate Team is a mode that appears across EA's package of sports matches. It combines elements of dream sports-style team direction with all the deck-building of a classic card game. The loot box component comes from packs which players may buy to boost their teams. Those microtransactions make Ultimate Team the most lucrative mode in EA's sports games.
On the one hand, it's easy to write off this for anybody without skin from the sport. If someone's already spending tens of thousands of bucks opening packs, why shouldn't they go right to the source and get the players that they need?
